My name is Johnna Holland, owner of My Canine Counterpart LLC. Thanks for visiting us and wanting to learn a little more about me and my canine counterparts.

I was born and raised here in Las Vegas. I have been a professional dog trainer for about 7 years, with many years of volunteer work prior – from shelters and rescues to neighbors and friends. I was adamant about getting around as many dogs as possible, whenever possible.

In my childhood, my family had miniature poodles - that's where the spark started. At 18 years old, I had moved out on my own in order to help this Pitbull I found on the street – all in, all at once. From poodles to pit bulls, with nothing but faith and discipline. Babi Dog and I moved out into the world together, completely unaware of how to live with each other. It was at that moment that my spark for understanding dogs was finally lit. She came with a lot of behaviors I didn’t understand…yet. But I wanted more than anything to understand her and give her a fulfilling life.

She wasn’t changing, so I had too. I spent the next several years learning all I could from any source I could find, to help my dog. I volunteered countless hours at shelters and rescues, trying to get around as many dogs as possible. Along the way, I began rescuing other dogs and learning how to manage multiple dogs, especially those with behavioral problems.

In 2019, I enrolled in Animal Behavior College, graduating in 2020. I learned an overview of dog history, behavior, learning and how to communicate these skills effectively to handlers, using positive reinforcement.

After graduation, I acquired experience by working under the guidance of the owner of a local dog training business for about four years. During this time, I developed skills in behavior management, socialization, dog sports, and effective communication. I have since learned how to use balanced training methods and proper use of a variety of tools. My biggest learning moment was when I understood and accepted that dog training is not a one size fits all industry. Dog Training is continually evolving so I am committed to keeping a continuous education through various resources – online courses, certifications, reading, events, and dog sports.

I have also competed in many dog sports such as Conformation, Rally, Agility and Barn Hunt.  Dog sports have opened my eyes even wider to the intricacies of dog training. I am forever a student to the dogs - I am where I am meant to be.

TOOLS I USE IN TRAINING:

As a balanced trainer, my toolbelt is similar to a Mary Poppins bag.  I am ready to use whatever tool or technique is necessary to begin the learning process.  My most commonly used tools are the trusty SLIP LEASH, the guiding PRONG COLLAR and the freedom of the E COLLAR.  While these tools are my common tools, these are NOT the only tools.  I am trained to use a gentle leader, halti, a transitional lead, harness and more.  However, through my services I hope that you will allow me the space to discuss which tool we should use and why, to best suit your dog's needs.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If we use a prong collar, it MUST be a Herm Sprenger collar.

If we use an e collar, it MUST be from Ecollar Technologies.
